Born in South London, Jean grew up there during the war. On leaving school at 17 she worked as a secretary/PA in various offices in London's West End. During this time she married an architect, living first in Hampstead, then Hemel Hempstead where daughter Madeleine was born, she later moved to Kent where her husband set up an architect's practice and Fraser, their son, was born.

After her children had left home, she ran a country house hotel in Snowdonia for three years, then moved to Chester. Finally Jean retired to North Lincolnshire where she is now an active member of various local organisations. She is keenly interested in the history of the area in which she has now settled and it is from this fascination that this book has grown.

SOUTH KELSEY

The History of a North Lincolnshire Village

A book for genealogists, historians and for those with an interest in Lincolnshire and its people, Jean Collins offers a composite picture of how South Kelsey and many similar country villages developed over the centuries.

Jean has talked to many villagers who have shared their personal memories, recollections and photographs, some of which, with their kind permission, are included in this book.

This fascinating social history is a coherent account of many of the events and people that came together to make this lovely rural North Lincolnshire village.
